Writing training in patients with multiple sclerosis

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The purpose of our research was to determine the most frequent mistakes that multiple sclerosis patients make when writing and evaluate the influence of an activities system in the improvement of written language in those patients, through a training for the establishment and automatization of correct patterns of writings, allowing them another communication form with society. Material and methods: The research had a sample of 7 patients averaging 42 years of age, divided by gender for men and three women, with and evolution period of up to 11 years. They were submitted to an initial and final test evaluated by means of the Oligraf writing quantified scale (created by the Defectology department). In the intermediate period they received defectologic rehabilitation during 56 days as an average, an hour a day, 5 to 6 times a week. Results: The result was that the specialists became aware of the most frequent mistakes in writing that the patients object of this studies made, which were: micrography, agglutination, expansive writing and presence of irregular traits, as well as their improvement demonstrating that activities applied for the improvement of the writing correct patterns were effective. Conclusion: Socially this is of great importance because it allows the patients to be more independent.
