ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to show one of the treatment options for the chronic mandibular luxation, in a 44 years-old female patient. For years many techniques have been used for limiting the mandibular opening in patients with chronic mandibular luxation of the temporomandibular joint, including injection of sclerosing agents, obstruction of condylar translation by down fracturing the zygomatic arch, bone graft augmentation of the tuberculum. The miniplates, mesh or pins have been used for creating a mechanical impediment and limiting mandibular opening. In this paper a patient is described in whom the range of condylar movement was restricted increasing the height of the articular eminence by a bone graft fixed with 2.0 x 9 mm titanium screw. Six months postoperatively, temporomandibular joint function was unimpeded. There was no recurrence of condylar luxation. We conclude that this technique provides an effective method for the prevention of condylar luxation.
