ABSTRACT
Objective: To show the results of 27 patients that presented an abdominal urgency during pregnancy solved by laparoscopic surgery.
Design: Longitudinal, retrospective, not comparative report with exclusion criteria.
Setting: Second level hospital at Cuernavaca, Morelos.
Materials: 27 pregnant patients were operated by laparoscopy. The study period embraced eight years, from 01-01-1995 to 12-31-2002 and a preoperative protocol was used in all patients.
Results: 27 procedures were realized by laparoscopy, all with acute abdominal in conjunction with pregnancy. The frequency found of pregnancy and abdominal pain that required any type of surgery was 1:1,280 cases. The average age was 24.03 years old, performing laparoscopic surgeries during the three trimesters of pregnancy, the average surgical time was 69.51 minutes, drainages were placed in all patients, the hospitalization time average was of 1.7 days (1-4 days), only three cases (11.11%) presented complications which do not required another surgery, only one case (3.7%) suffered fetal lost after the laparoscopic procedure and there was not maternal morbidity during the presenting study.
Conclusion: It can be actually concluded that laparoscopic surgery must be indicated in all pregnant women, demonstrating high safety during gestational period, offering great number of benefits to both mother and fetus, when these procedures are done by qualified and experienced surgeons.
