ABSTRACT

Prosthetic attachments are devices that are adjusted when assembled and act as direct retainers. Their application is in fixed, removable prosthesis, overdentures and over implants. Since their appearance in 1888 up to now they have been under certain mystery by the lack of knowledge and expertise for their applications. This literature review presents different means for their classification method for the attachments, indications and contraindications. Once knowing the attachment’s applications they can be selected for their intended use.
