ABSTRACT

un shot wounds to the heart are associated with a high mortality rate. A "favourable" evolution occurs if cardiac tamponade prevents exsanguination; the clinical course may vary among those who survive these injuries. We present two cases in point; the first with a four hour history involving cardiac, splenic and gastric injuries which on admission had more abdominal than thoracic signs. In the other, the patient presented in stable condition with cardiac and pulmonary injuries sustained 24 hours before. Both patients survived surgical correction and are free of complications 1 and 2 months later.
