Early maternal milk, necrotizing enterocolitis.

ABSTRACT

The objective was to evaluate the efect of human milk in the treatment of neonates for necrotizing enterocolitis.
Material and methods: The clinical randomized study included newborns ≤ 37 gestation week with necrotizing enterocolitis, the 14 neonates studied were divided in two groups: group A, received conventional treatment and group B, included early human milk 30 calories/kg/day. Data obtained were: gastric residue, abdominal distention, blood in feces, complications, and radiologic imagens of metabolic ileo and intestinal pneumatosis.
Results: The premature incidence of prematurity was 5.2 /100 newborns, 13.5% (n = 14) developed enterocolitis the, weight was 2052 ± 0.328 g the gestational age was 33 ± 9.7 weeks (range 28-37), the frequency of the stage 1A was 12/14. In the group B, there was an early clinical and radiologic improvement.
Conclusion: Early human milk feeding in neonates with necrotizing enterocolitis improvement the clinical and radiologic evolution of this disease.
