ABSTRACT

Objective. Use of intravenous immunoglobulin together with the factor to stimulate colonies of granulocytes and the transfer factor to rescue newborn with septic shock.
Material and methods. Ten newborn with diagnosis of septic shock and with no response after general management; a positive hemocultive and management before the use of intravenous immunoglubulin and the factor to stimulate colonies of granulocytes, received a lyophilized transfer factor extracted from bovine thymus it was used daily at a dosage of one half of a unit for ten days.
Results. Most of the newborn wighed less than 1250 g (7/10), and they were diagnosed with hyalin membrane disease, a low Apgar and they were hypotrophic (6/10). We observed an increase in leukocytes (8/10) and platelets (8/19). 100% of the newborns treated survived septic shock.
Conclusion. The use of the transfer factor in rescuing infants from septic shock whenever immunotherapy alternatives have been used such as intravenous immunoglobulin and the factor for stimulating granulocyte colonies.
