ABSTRACT
Congenital chylothorax is the main cause of pleural effusion in the newborns. The diagnosis can be established in the intrauterine period by ultrasonographic study. This report is about a newborn child with the prenatal diagnosis of congenital chylothorax, as soon as he was born needed mechanical ventilation, a cannula installation in the right pleural and a closed drainage in the left pleura. He was treated by parenteral nutrition and the administration of octreotide.
