ABSTRACT

When studing death human bodies it is important to estimate the age at the time of death, it is of great value in forensic science and the involved activities in the archeological context. In certain situations, some of the existing procedures are insufficient to arrive to a satisfactory conclusion, due to this it is needed the development of new methods. Some research is focused in the tooth change as it ages. One of these changes is the radicular dentin transparency; it has shown a direct relationship with age. Generally starts at the third decade of life and advances to the crown. This phenomenon is caused by the diameter reduction of dentinal tubules and the increased intratubular calcification. The refraction index of intratubular and extratubular dentin, organic and inorganic, is balanced generating dentin translucency.
