ABSTRACT
Objective: To assess the results of ambulatory laparoscopic funduplications in an endoscopic surgery training center.
Design: Case series.
Setting: Regional General Hospital 1 of the IMSS in the city of Tijuana, BC.
Statistical Analysis: Data were expressed as central tendency (mean and range) and dispersion (standard deviation) measures.
Patients and methods: We analyzed 45 patients subjected to ambulatory laparoscopic funduplication at the General Regional Hospital 1 of the city of Tijuana, BC, to assess postoperative morbidity, early discharge, and hospital re-admittance.
Results: Patients were constituted in 25 men and 20 women, average age of 44.28 ± 12.6 years. Ambulatory surgery was performed in all of them; one patient suffered non-controlled pain after the surgery and was, therefore, discharged after 24 hours. Patients stayed at the hospital an average of 9.8 ± 3.8 hours.
Conclusions: Ambulatory laparoscopic funduplication has shown to be safe and efficacious. This surgical procedure in well chosen patients allows for early discharge without compromising safety and with a good tolerance.
