ABSTRACT

Background The human face, as many things in nature, presents the divine proportion in all its segments. Dr. Marquardt based on this, designed a mask that contains the divine proportion in every section to evaluate the beauty in the human face with surgical purposes.
Objective
To evaluate the functionality of the mask for the preoperative valoration of patients summitted to aesthetic rhinoplasty.
Patients and methods
Four female patients, that had rhinoplasty, were evaluated in the pre and postoperatory with Dr. Marquardt’s mask. The results were measured with patient’s satisfaction and the harmony of the nose with the rest of the face.
Results
The aesthetic results were very good, the nasolabial angle improved, the tip and dorsum refined and in some cases the tip projection increased.
Conclusions
It’s difficult to square the photo with the mask, this makes the evaluation process slow, but once they are aligned, it’s easy to determine the kind of surgery needed. It’s an easy method that allows us to have an idea of the desired results in a graphic way, without having to use specialized software.
