Auditory gain by stapedectomy

ABSTRACT

Background
Stapedectomy is a technique used to correct conductive hipoacusia due to otosclerosis.
ObjeCtive
To evaluate the functional results in patients operated with hipoacusia.
Material and methods
A retrospective and longitudinal study was done, we reviewed 42 clinical files of patients with otosclerosis to evaluate the auditory gain by means of the closing of GAP in the frequencies of 500,1,000 and, 2,000 Hertz.
Results
There were a total of 42 patients with 51 operated ears. The average age of 34.6 years and time of evolution from the time of consultation of 10.4 years. Stapedotomies were performed in 90% of the patients, and the rest of the patients had stapedectomy’s done to them. Conclusions
90% of the ears showed auditory gain, with an average closing of GAP by 26 db.
