ABSTRACT

Objectives
To know de incidence of infection after radical mastoidectomy and the time of epithelization in patients with chronic otitis media.
Material and methods
An original, no experimental, cohort, longitudinal, retrospective and clinic study was done in which files of patients with radical mastoidectomy in the last five years were reviewed. The three first weeks were studied, determining if there was infection and the time of epithelization. The results were analyzed by proportions.
Results
The general incidence of infection in patients with radical mastoidectomy was of 3.7%, with confident interval of 95%, with limits of confident of -0.18 and 7.22.
Conclusions
Complete epithelization time in a radical mastoidectomy cavity was of 12 weeks in 96.3% of patients.
