ABSTRACT

The alloplastic reconstruction of the temporomandibular joint is a therapeutic option for serious joint disorders where the conservative treatment is not possible or has even failed. There are very good results reported with long-term controls. In this article, we report two cases of total reconstruction of the temporomandibular joint by means of the Lorenz/Biomet system in two patients suffering from unilateral temporomandibular anchylosis. This is one of the fewest reported cases in Mexico, where the common fact is the reconstruction through taking and application of autologous grafts. Furthermore, the article mentions some important aspects with regard to the temporomandibular prosthetic reconstruction.
