ABSTRACT

Background and Objectives: Preoperative studies are necessary when they are well indicated and rationalized. In this work we analyzed its utility throughout simplified strategy of Roizen. Material and Methods: The productivity of our service was evaluated during 3 months with respect to the age groups. We evaluate ASA clasification, preoperative pathology and the incidences of abnormalities in respect the preoperative laboratory tests; 1,652 patient files were included in the study. Results: patients with physica l status I, no showed any abnormalities in the different age groups, and higher incidence in better physical always was associated in direct relation with age. Conclusions: The number of preoperative studies is elevated and unnecessary, especially in younger people. Preoperative examinations and clinical interrogation will be a better alternative than preoperative labs.
