ABSTRACT

Protein glycosylation is an important modification of proteins. The knowledge about the glycosylation machinery in eucarya is advance; in fact, there are some illness in human being related with failure in the mechanism of protein glycosylation. Some years ago bacteria have been tought incapable of glycosylating proteins. Now, glycoprotein synthesis in bacteria has been firmly established. Currently, the study of protein glycosylation in pathogen bacteria is very important because there are strong relation between glycoproteins and pathogenesis. This new field of investigation is a novel target in the figth against bacteria.
