ABSTRACT

CD4+ selective lymphocytopenia has a very wide range of clinical manifestations, from the asymptomatic patient, to life-threatening conditions such as AIDS definitory infections. We introduce the case of a 47 year old woman with recurrent genital infections caused by herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV 2) in whom selective CD4+ lymphocytopenia was identified, in addition to a literature review of the different causes of CD4+ lymphocytopenia other than HIV infection with special attention to idiopathic CD4+ selective lymphocytopenia.
