ABSTRACT
Introduction: Endocarditis is a serious disease and without diagnosis and treatment, has elevated mortality. Objective: To present clinical findings and surgical results in patients with endocarditis. Material and methods: From January 1997 to august 31 2000 were treated 20 patients with endocarditis. The information was taked from files review. Results: The endocarditis was present on 16 native heart valve (80%), and 4 were prosthetic heart valve (20%). The most affected heart valve was aortic valve (45%), followed by mitral valve (15%), tricuspid (10%), combination of mitral and aortic valve (25%). The mortality was 0% on the postoperative period and 15% within first month. Conclusion: In our study we found that endocarditis is most frequently on native heart valves than prosthetic and aortic valve is most affected, and etiology and results of treatment are similar to international medical reports.REFERENCES
