ABSTRACT

Objective: To inform the experience obtained in the diagnosis and children’s treatment with branchial cyst and fistula. Material and methods: 20 children were selected among 200 clinical files of children with the diagnosis branchial fistula. Information was obtained about the diagnosis and surgical treatment of this illness. Results: 16 of the children had branchial fistula and four congenital cysts of the neck once the diagnosis was done the congenital anomaly was extirpated; all children had a satisfactory evolution after six months to five years of the treatment. Conclusions: The surgical resection is necessary not alone for aesthetic reasons but for the recurrent infections located in the characteristic cavities of these anomalies and the potential danger of malignancy of tissue.
