ABSTRACT

The donors population in our blood bank is close to 85,000 per year. In the 90% of these donors are whole blood donors and 10% are plateletpheresis donors, special phenotype donors and voluntary donors. The sample considered was about 1,118 donors attended 518 whole blood and 138 plateletpheresis donors. In the 68% donors the waiting time for whole blood was 89 ± 19 minutes and for plateletpheresis was 153 ± 30 minutes. The donation process duration affects the donors disposition to come back and donate in the future; for this motive is necessary to establish waiting time standards to improve donor satisfaction. Guarantee the quality depends of a good and correct system for each case and the continue checking of that system to get the efficiency.
