ABSTRACT

We describe the case of a 42 year-old man who presented with fever, malaise and painful mass on his lower neck, which proved to be located within the thyroid gland by ultrasound. Aspiration biopsy of the lesion yielded purulent material and Acinetobacter lowfi was isolated. The diagnosis of acute bacterial thyroiditis was established and the patient responded well to antibiotic treatment.
