Neutralization retinoscopic technique, ophthalmoscopic retinoscopy.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Estimating retinoscopic techniques do not use trial lenses to neutralize the retinoscopic reflex. One of these techniques is called «ophthalmoscopic retinoscopy» and consists in measuring the distance in which a retinoscopic focus is found on the retina. This requires measuring separately the distance with a rule or a tape measure.
Technique description: We describe a technique in which two tape measures are adapted to each side of the retinoscope to measure the distance simultaneously to getting the retinoscopic focus thus rapidly obtaining the approximate refractive error of the patient.
Discussion: We find this modification of great use in getting the refractive status of the patient in situations such as patient prostration in which other methods of refraction are useless.
