ABSTRACT

The objective of this revision is to promove the knowledge of the studies that have been done in the Unidad de Investigación del Hospital General “Dr. Miguel Silva”, of Morelia City, Michoacán, during last ten years in the rabbit. This can be summarized as follows: The avocado can prevent the experimental atherosclerosis; the avocado does not induced atherosclerosis; the avocado provokes a very important change in the seric fatty acids; the avocado induces decreas of total cholesterol, low density cholesterol and tryglicerides with increase in high density cholesterol and very important change in the atherogenic index; avocado does not induce obesity; the daily recommended dose of avocado is from 1 to 2 g per kilogram in humans.
