ABSTRACT

We present the case of a 7 year-old boy with history of recurrent sinusitis involving the left maxillary sinus. Asurgical approach revealed a polypoid mass in the sinus which was resected. Histologic analysis showed a classic blue nevus in the stroma and melanocytic colonization of the epithelium with melanin pigment within the cytoplasm of the epithelial cells. Retrospectively, pigmented patches were observed in the facial skin. Only two cases of blue nevus of the maxillary sinus had been reported in literature, none of them associated with pigmented patches or symptomatic. Differential diagnosis includes melanoma of the sinus mucosa.
