ABSTRACT

Introduction: Lymphangioma cyst is very rare when localized in the anterior mediastinum, its frequency is of the order of 0.7-4.5% of all mediastinum tumors. We treated a patient with this pathology.
Clinical Case: A five-year old girl without important predate. She had born from a 9th normal pregnancy and delivery. Her vaccination status is complete. It was known that a younger ages experienced repetitive infections of the upper respiratory tract. Before hospitalization, she experienced acute thoracic pain in the precordium and fever during 24 hours. A physical exam revealed hyperventilation and diminished breath sounds in the left hemithorax. Laboratory exams showed signs of infection. Imaging studies ratified a tumor in the anterior mediastinum. A thoracotomy was employed to resect the tumor and a pathological study revealed a Lymphangioma cyst.
Discussion: We studied some embryological aspects of the lymphatic system, the cyst localization and its frequency. We analyzed imaging exams that confirm a lymphangioma cyst. We discussed the surgical procedure and the application of OK-432.
