ABSTRACT

Background: One of the first signs of aging appears in the upper third of the face. The complex eyebrow-upper eyelid are intimately related, therefore a surgical approach is based on the evaluation of the eyebrow and periorbital area to achieve the desired results of a rested, natural appearance. Different surgical techniques in the upper facial third have been described. Each technique has its own indications, advantages and disadvantages.
Objective: To describe the technique of eyebrow lifting, which consists on a minimal incision approach of the upper facial third in a subperiosteal plane of dissection.
Material and method: A prospective analysis of all patients who underwent eyebrow lifting, from January 2001 to October 2008 was conducted. Changes in brow position were measured using photographs of patients taken before and after surgery. The ratios were compared to previous literature data.
Conclusions: This surgical approach has advantages over other surgical techniques. A concurrent aesthetic procedure like upper blepharoplasty improves the satisfaction of the patient. Anatomic features of each patient must be considered to evaluate the results of the surgical procedure for eyebrow lifting.
