(Hemorrhagic shock and encephalopathy syndrome. A challenge of diagnosis)

ABSTRACT
We present the case of a young infant of 3 months old, who had was high fever (40 °C) of abrupt onset the previous night; in the first 24-36 h, the baby has developing shock, neurological impairment with coma and seizures, bloody diarrhea, metabolic acidosis, renal failure, anemia, platelet fill and hepatic enzymes rise (TGO, TGP, CPK), bacteriologic cultures were negative. With intensive vital support treatment and blood derivates reposition, progressive clinical and biochemical improvement was observed 72-96 hours after, the patient survived event, impairment neurological function however was present. The case show consistence with eight of nine criteria for HSES definition. Differential diagnosis must be made with Reye syndrome, toxic shock, heat shock and other catastrophic conditions.REFERENCES
