Lipoma in parotid region. Review of 10 years at the Hospital de Especialidades CMN «La Raza», IMSS, January 2000 - December 2009

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Lipomas are benign neoplasms mature adipose tissue and can develop at any part of the body, but it is rare to located in the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx and the parotid gland.
Objective: To conduct a review and cases of lipoma in the region parotid at the National Medical Center La Raza, In the period from 2000 to 2009, compared with the literature and presentation of clinic case.
Material and methods: All is it done in conjunction with Service of Maxillofacial Surgery and Pathology Service of Specialty Hospital of National Medical Center La Raza, of Social Security Mexican Institute.
Review: with histopathology reports of patients with diagnostic of lipoma in the region parotid during the period from January 2000 to December 2009.
Results: A total of 9 cases. The age of predilection was the 5th decade of life, with three cases. Affected more often than males females with 8 cases (85%) and the site of greatest predilection was the right side with 6 cases (75%). At 100% underwent excision of the lesion. No recurrence was reported none of the cases.
Conclusions: The lipoma in parotid gland is a rare entity, but must keep this in mind when making the diagnosis. Surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment and prognosis is favorable.
