ABSTRACT

A prospective, experimental and comparative study was done with respect to the tonsillectomies performed at the Service of Otolaryngology in the «General Ignacio Zaragoza» Regional Hospital, ISSSTE, between August 2007 and September 2010. The objective was to know the advantages of the application of lidocaine with epinephrine at 2% in tonsil´s surgery. 80 patients were studied. We infiltrated lidocaine with epinephrine at 2%, one tonsil corresponding to study group and non-infiltrated tonsil to the control group in the same patient; 38 (47.5%) were male and 42 (52.5%) female, age range 3-12 years 64 (80%), 13-24 years 12 (15%), 25 years and older 4 (5%). The analysis between the groups allowed us to establish a statistically significant difference between bleeding and post-operative pain in favor of the study group using a significance level 5% = 0.05.
