ABSTRACT
Primary teeth are responsible for preserving the space available for permanent teeth to align. It is important that these be kept in good condition for as long as possible so as to prevent the development of pathologies associated with premature tooth loss. Space maintainers are one of the techniques most commonly used to prevent the closure of the space available for permanent teeth to erupt. We present the case of a 7-year-old girl with severe caries who attended the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at the Autonomous University of the State of México (UAEM) Dental School. The treatment consisted of applying various types of restoration, including sealants, resins, pulp therapy and nickel-chrome crowns.
We discuss the results obtained from using a functional, bilateral and aesthetic space maintainer.
