ABSTRACT

Objective: The purpose of this paper is to show the versatility of the modified retroauricular approach to use it in temporomandibular joint surgery with rotation of temporalis myofascial flap for replacement of the articular disc. The accessibility of the same surgical site, the minimum aesthetic and functional morbidity and the use of an autologous vascularized flap make the myofascial temporalis flap the best technique for replacement of the articular disc. The modified retroauricular approach has shown excellent results in our hands for the surgical treatment of the temporomandibular joint no matter which procedure we choose to perform.
