ABSTRACT

Diaphragmatic hernias refer to a diaphragmatic defect that may be adquired or congenit. In this pathology, abdominal content protrudes into the thorax; its origin is mainly due to blunt and penetrating traumas. The diagnosis relies on chest radiographs that show hollow viscera that contain liquid or air above the diaphragmatic level. Early diagnosis precludes respiratory and circulatory disfunction due to diaphragmatic motility impairment..
