ABSTRACT

Atherosclerosis, the major cause of ischemic coronary disease and cerebrovascular disease, is a chronic inflammatory disorder in with immune mechanisms interacts with metabolic risk factors to initiate, propagate and activate vascular lesions. Aspirin use for the primary and secondary prevention of thromboembolic events has a favorable benefit to risk profile and should be encouraged in those at high risk.
