Diaphragmatic hernia, gastric volvulus, diaphragmatic plasty, intussusception, neonatal period.

ABSTRACT

Introduction. Congenital diaphragmatic hernias present at birth are readily recognized. In contrast, the diagnosis of diaphragmatic hernia after the neonatal period varies considerably owing to misleading clinical and radiologic features.
Material and Method. The records of nine patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia were misdiagnosed clinically and radiologically as infective lung changes, pneumothorax. Other erroneous diagnoses included: pancreatitis, gastric ischemia, intrathoracic intussusception and hepatic-pulmonary fusion.
Conclusions. Undiagnosed diaphragmatic hernias at birth are dangerous conditions erroneously diagnosed as a variety of conditions.
