ABSTRACT

For about as many situations or events in an emergency room, initial resuscitation of critically ill trauma requires speed, knowledge and teamwork. When our specialty began, the resuscitation of trauma patients was the responsibility of the surgeon and our training came from that specialty. Today, the resuscitation of trauma patients is clearly of our domain. If we want to excel in this role, we need the most current information and evidence and management strategies. This article is about the traumatized critically ill patients; stable patients are treated very differently.
