ABSTRACT

The authors present their initial experience with the use of the mesh and plug technique for surgery of inguinal hernias. There were 86 patients operated procedure on a 3 1/2 year period. The operation was done as an out-patient in 33.8% of the cases. Local anesthesia was used in 8 (9.3%), epidural in 63 (73.2%) and general in 15 (17.4%). There were three minor complications, as forms: One patient, who in addition to bilateral hernioplasty, had resection of varicocele and a cyst of the epididimus, developed a painful retraction of the left testicle that required surgical revision by a urologist. In the short follow-up period, no recurrences have been detected. The procedure is safe, well tolerated, inexpensive, and well accepted by the patients.
