ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present study is to report a clinical case of the enucleation of a nasopalatine cyst and its histopathological characteristics. Routine radiographic examination of a 50-yearold patient attending the teaching clinic of the University of Santiago de Cali revealed a radiolucent lesion measuring over 10 mm in the nasopalatine canal, for which enucleation and histopathological evaluation were performed. The surgical procedure performed involved an intracrevicular palatine incision, a mucoperiosteal flap, and enucleation of the cyst. No postoperative complications were observed. The histopathology study showed a dense band of fibrous, collagenous connective tissue, which created a pathological cavity coated with an epithelium made up of two types: one flat, the other pseudo-stratified, ciliated, and cylindrical. In addition, the fibrous wall was vascularized, which explains the growth activity of the lesion. Given that the vitality of adjacent teeth was not compromised and that no evidence of malignancy was found, the diagnosis of a nasopalatine incisor canal cyst was confirmed.
