ABSTRACT

Sporotrichosis is a uncommon subcutaneous disease in childhood; it’s a micotic infection produced by a mold of Sporothrix schenckii generally associated with small skin injuries that begins after contact with soil, hay, wood or decaying vegetation; sometimes scratches or bites of contaminated animals. According with amount of inoculum and host immunity, it´s classified in fixed cutaneous form, lymphocutaneous presentation and disseminated form. Diagnosis is made by it’s characteristic morphologycal skin lesions, supported by KOH examination and culture, histopathology analysis and sporotrichin skin test, when it´s possible The gold standard treatment for this mycosis is potassium iodine, 1-3 g in three doses; oral imidazol and terbinafine are also very effective. We present two infected children with emphasis in it´s typical clinic course and presentation and different terapheutic options available.
