ABSTRACT

Background: In 1960 began the presentation of free papers in the Annual Meetings of the Agrupación Mexicana para el Estudio de la Hematología (AMEH). Since then there has been a sustained increment in the number of abstracts and participating institutions.
Objective: To describe the items, abstract categories, authorship, and participating institutions in the last four Annual Meetings (2008-2011) of the AMEH (2008-2011).
Material and Methods: Data were obtained from abstracts published in the Revista de Hematología, official Journal of the AMEH AC.
Results: Acute leukemias, hemostasis and thrombosis and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation were the most frequent items. Of all abstracts, nearly one fifth of them (20.9% ± 2.9) were Case Reports. The most frequent abstracts were multi-institutional showing a constant increment from 17.1 % in 2008 to 29.3 % in 2011. Hospital General de México (HGM) collaborate with the higher number of multi-institutional abstracts followed by: Centro de Hematología y Medicina Interna de Puebla, Hospital Universitario de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (HUUANL), Hospital de Especialidades La Raza del IMSS and Escuela de Medicina del ITESM. Single-institution analysis showed that the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición occupied the first place in the number abstracts followed by: HGM, HUUANL, Centro Médico Nacional 20 de Noviembre ISSSTE and Instituto Nacional de Cancerología.
Conclusion: The aim in future Annual Meetings is to invite our participants to send less Case Reports and to increase the number of multi-institutional absracts
