ABSTRACT

Compound odontomas are hamartomas made up of dental tissue, with assorted degrees of histological and morphological differentiation, which appear as an arrested tooth formation. Of both ectodermic and mesodermic origin, they constitute the most common of benign mixed odontogenic tumors, hence it is essential for odontologists to recognize their clinical characteristics in order to be able to carry out the appropriate surgical procedure.
This article looks at the case of a 9-year-old male in whom intraoral examination revealed an odontoma in the upper-left incisor, which was surgically removed. Various aspects of the related etiology, differential diagnosis, and treatment are discussed.
