ABSTRACT

The use of fiber posts is currently on the rise, thanks to the advantages they offer compared to other prefabricated post systems. In the relevant literature, we discovered that one of the advantages that manufacturers and many authors attribute to these posts is their easy removal when necessary due to fracturing of the post or to root canal retreatment. Research articles describe several techniques and instruments that can be effective in post removal, though most of these studies are in vitro. Unfortunately, when we need to remove a post from a patient's tooth, we discover that not only is this difficult but actually sometimes quite impossible. After searching in a series of books and articles, we have failed to find any safe or practical clinical technique that is entirely safe and free of any complications for the dentist.
In this article, we describe a technique that could make this procedure easier and more effective, one that is worthy of consideration.
