ABSTRACT

The proximal femur surgical approach, in regard to the pathology to treat, if is a trauma case or orthopaedic case, we have in anterior surface of femur, as the direct anterior approach, and the Smith Petersen approach, in the lateral surface of the femur, just proximal to the Greater Trochanter, or distal to the Greater Trochanter, or a lateral approach with a Sagittal Osteotomy of the Greater Trochanter, in the posterior surface of the proximal femur, we have different approaches such as the Kocher Lamgembek, the Southern, the Gibson, etc., that we can use in the case of a femoral head fracture associated with a acetabular fracture or the need to install a arthroplasty of the hip. The surgeon should a perfect knowledge of the anatomy of the region, to avoide a vascular or neurologic injury. In the present article it will describe the most frecuently used surgical approaches used in the treatment of trauma of the proximal femur.
