ABSTRACT

Wounds caused by burns are a major medical problem and cause an increase inmorbidity andmortality at great cost to the health system. The hypertrophic scar has been defined as pathology of postraumatic origin, which is characterized by an injury in the deep dermis along with a change in the factors that lead to healing, due to the presence of chronic inflammatory process. It is characterized by a great synthesis of extracellularmatrix components, predominantly collagen, besides presenting an increase in scar retraction. Therefore, most of health research has focused on improving repair processes, preventing the formation of fibrous sequels, and resolution of fibrosing skin pathologies. Unfortunately it has not achieved a complete success, leaving a vast field for research into new therapeutic strategies that will enable us to resolve the fibrosing pathologies. The objective of this article is to review current information on the physiopathology of hypertrophic scar and its new therapies.
