ABSTRACT

Heart murmurs are one of the most common pediatric cardiology referrals. In 50-85% of patients the murmur is innocent and it should be differentiate of congenital or acquired heart diseases. In the majority of the cases a complete clinical history and a physical examination are sufficient to decide whether they are normal; however a reduction in the abilities to interpret heart sounds and murmurs delay the diagnosis in cases of structural anomalies. In this article we expose the characteristics of both normal and pathological murmurs and the pediatric cardiologist referral criteria.
