Labor, educational and social condition of 7 to 70-year old amputee patients at the National Institute of Rehabilitation from 2000 to 2008

ABSTRACT

Background: It is crucial that patients after amputation in order to be rehabilitated as soon as they can relocate to their daily lives in the employment context, educational and social development; the aim of this study is the process known as impact rehabilitative to the lack of it in the re-employment, educational and social, by applying a questionnaire to 107 patients at the Rehabilitation National Institute between 2000 and 2011. Material and methods: A cross-sectional study of patients treated by amputation in Rehabilitation National Institute from 2000 to 2011, calls were made by telephone and answered a questionnaire. Results: Of the 107 patients with a mean age of 46.68 years, 59% had a basic education schooling and causes of traumatic amputation were predominant and then the metabolic job in the field the highest percentage of patients who did not return to work are the patients for metabolic causes. Conclusions: The sequels that bring some amputations impact the return on labor, social and educational so requires greater participation by the health team to provide continuity in the treatment of this patients.
