ABSTRACT

The gradual increase of the hope of life has caused a substantial increase of the prevalence of the glaucoma that affects to the population's growing proportion. In our country a reduced readiness of medications ocular hypotensor exists, for that that not always in spite of the treatment and of the pursuit in consultation the control of the illness is achieved; for what could be in the natural and traditional medicine the solution to this problem. Objective: to determine the effectiveness of the auriculotherapy like therapeutic strategy in the old man with Glaucoma Chronic not controlled with the purpose of avoiding the polypharmacy. Method: he/she was carried out a prospective and longitudinal analytic study in old men assisted in the provincial consultation of Glaucoma that stayed not controlled of their illness during the period 2010-2011. The universe was constituted by 100 60 year-old patients and more than they went to glaucoma consultation and the sample for 48 patients that fulfilled the inclusion requirements for the study. The statistical prosecution was by means of technical of descriptive statistic, using the system Epi Info and the results were shown in charts, using the percentage method. Results and Conclusions: they were the compensation of the pression intraocular, one in both groups by a high percent of patient, the scarce appearance of adverse reactions with the use of the auriculotherapy and the improvement of the quality of life when reducing the polypharmacy .
