ABSTRACT

Introduction: The widespread application of abdominal imaging procedures has resulted in an increased frequency of clinically silent adrenal masses. Adrenal incidentaloma (AI) is a term applied to an accidentally discovered adrenal mass on imaging performed for the investigation of an unrelated complaint. Adrenal incidentalomas (AIs) are a cluster of different pathologies, the majority of which are benign and non-functioning adrenal adenomas. Case report: A 69 year-old female, presented symptoms related to hyperpigmented skin lesions reason for why started a study protocol in witch by CT scan a left adrenal incidentaloma was founded. Preoperative testing suggested that the mass was biochemically silent. We decided to take the patient to the operating room for a laparoscopic left adrenalectomy without complications. Final pathology report was adrenocortical hyperplasia. Conclusion: Laparoscopic adrenalectomy has become the gold standard in management of most adrenal masses. Retrospective comparison studies have illustrated the superiority of the laparoscopic approach over the open procedure for the removal of benign functioning and nonfunctioning tumors of the adrenal gland. Surgery must be practice in all AI cases that fulfill the particular criteria in terms of size, function and the development of the mass on follow-up by TAC.
