ABSTRACT
Ectopic placement of third molars is relatively rare. Radiographically can be found in asymptomatic patients on mandibular angle, sigmoid notch, process coronoid or mandibular condyle. There are a few cases reported in the literature about ectopic third molar in the mandibular condyle. The reason as to why third molars are sometimes ectopically placed is unknown; however, anomalous development, trauma, aberrant eruption and/or odontogenic tumors are all theories that have been postulated. In this article we made a literature review and we describe an ectopic third molar in the mandibular condyle valued in the Hospital General «Dr. Darío Fernández Fierro», ISSSTE.
