ABSTRACT

Diagnostic imaging in biliary tree patologies can be obtained with several medical imaging techniques classified as invasive: endoscopic ultrasound (US), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and transhepatic cholangiopancreatography; and non-invasive: US, enhanced or nonenhanced computed tomography (CT), and the magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP). Nowadays, MRCP represents the best noninvasive technique to evaluate the biliary tree. Selection of the best diagnostic tool depends on an individual clinical evaluation of each patientand the availability of the method.
In this report we present the case of a 65-years old male, referred with complains of abdominal pain, and jaundice for the last weeks, a diagnostic of pancreatic cancer was confirmed. We show the most representative findings at MRCP, as well as other “classical” findings in the biliary tree and a brief review of the literature. It is expected that MRCP will become an imaging method of choice for many of this pathologies.
