ABSTRACT

The tumors of the brain stem are a relatively common site in childhood. The locked in syndrome is the result of ventral region injury of the pons or medulla, usually secondary of vascular origin. The clinical presentation of tumors of the brain stem depend on the location and extent of this, the literature refers to demonst rations of affection by cranial nerves, cerebellar symptoms, condition of long tracts as both motor sensitive are common denominator. A case report of 48 year old mal e with cervical pain, dysmetria, dizziness and blurred vision of two months of evolution. He presented dysphagia, bilaterally nauseous reflex declining and 72 hrs. after he developed multidirectional nystagmus, myosis and cuadriplejia. Magnetic Resonance Imaging with bulbar and pontine tumor. A biopsy was performed and histopathological results corresponding to multiform glioblastoma. The clinical presentation of tumors of the brain stem depend on the location and extent of this, the literature refers to demonstrations of affection by cranial nerves, cerebellar symptoms, condition of long tracts as both motor sensitive are common denominator. This is a unique case in the world w ith extraordinarily rare presentation.
